Create a cohort

A cohort is one delivery of a track to a group at a scheduled time: an instructor-led class. Every trainee on the roster gets their own lab environment, and you follow the class live from the cohort’s page (see Run a cohort).

Before you start, you need:

  • in a subscription organization, an Instructor seat assigned to your account (see Seats); in a contract organization, the instructor or admin role (see Members and roles);
  • a published track containing at least one scenario (see Compose a track).
  1. In the sidebar, open Train, then Cohorts.

  2. Click New cohort. The wizard shows three steps: Track, Schedule and Roster.

  3. Under Pick a track, click the track to deliver. The cohort copies its sequence and materials: editing the track later will not change this class.

  1. Under When it runs, enter a Name, for example “Kubernetes Fundamentals — September”. The track’s name is suggested by default.

  2. Pick the Scheduled start. It is an announcement for participants: nothing provisions or charges off it. You launch the class yourself.

  3. Set the Length in minutes. It is suggested from the scenarios’ estimated durations. It is the wall-clock length of the whole class, not of one scenario: the sequence is worked through inside it, and it is the time each trainee’s environment is given.

  4. Click Compose cohort. The cohort is created as a draft: it costs nothing and already shows in the list.

On the Roster step, the Who is attending panel offers two ways to add places.

  1. For people who are already members of the organization: under Enrol members, tick them, then click Enrol. Enrolment sends no invitation. A member must have joined the organization to be enrolled.

  2. For people who are not members yet: in Invite by email, enter the addresses, one per line or comma-separated, then click Invite. A repeated address counts once.

An invited address with no Klastro account yet receives an email invitation, and the person joins your organization to attend the class. An address that already matches an account is added directly, with no email: let the person know yourself. A cohort takes up to 500 participants.

To remove someone, open the cohort’s page and click the remove icon on their row in the Roster table. This is only possible while the cohort has not been launched.

The What it will cost panel updates with every roster change.

Line Meaning
Places on the roster The number of trainees enrolled.
Included by your plan The places your plan covers at no extra cost, for each cohort.
Extra places The places beyond that, with their unit price in credits.
Total on launch What will be debited from your balance when you launch.

The price of an extra place depends on the environments of the scenarios in the sequence and their estimated duration, capped at the cohort’s length. A longer cohort can therefore cost more. Plans and included places are described in Plans and credits.

In a contract organization, the cohort is covered by the contract: no credits are debited and no price is shown.

  1. Click Launch. The button becomes active fifteen minutes before the Scheduled start; before that it reads “Opens in …”.

  2. If your class is ready early, click Start now. The confirmation reminds you that the cohort’s length starts running from the launch.

  3. Read the confirmation: it states the exact amount debited from your balance and the number of environments started. Click Launch and pay …, or Launch when the cohort is inside your plan’s allowance.

After launch, each trainee starts their own environment from My Training: it is built at that moment, so the session’s time is spent on the work. Participants need no credits for their cohort labs. What they see is described in Join a training session.

On the page of a cohort that has not been launched, click Cancel this cohort, then confirm. It leaves your upcoming classes without being deleted: the roster and the sequence stay readable. Nothing is refunded because nothing was charged.
