Your first assessment
In this tutorial you build an assessment template from the scenario catalog, invite a candidate, watch their run live, then read their report. Plan on about ten minutes of your own time, plus however long the candidate spends in the lab.
Before you start, you need:
- an account in an organization on a business contract: assessments, templates, invitations and reports are part of the Enterprise plan (see Plans and credits);
- the Recruiter role or an admin role in that organization (see Members and roles);
- a candidate’s email address. For a first try, a second address of your own works well.
1. Build the template
Section titled “1. Build the template”-
In the sidebar, open Assess, then Templates.
-
Click New template. If a menu offers two choices, pick Compose from the catalog.
-
Under Assessment details, enter a Name, for example “Kubernetes troubleshooting — Senior SRE”. Leave Passing score (%) at 70.
-
In the Scenario catalog on the right, click Add on two scenarios. They appear on the left under Scenario order, and Total duration (min) fills itself in from their estimated durations.
-
Click Preview to see the assessment as the candidate will, then close the preview.
-
Click Create assessment. The “Assessment created” message confirms it was saved.
2. Invite the candidate
Section titled “2. Invite the candidate”-
Open Assess, then Invitations, and click Invite candidate.
-
Fill in the candidate’s Full name and Email address.
-
Under Template, choose the template you just created.
-
Under Expiry date, click 7 days.
-
Leave Auto approval selected so the candidate can start without waiting for you.
-
Click Send invitation. The “Invitation sent” message appears and the candidate receives an email with a link to their invitation.
The candidate then accepts the invitation and starts the assessment (see Accept an invitation).
3. Watch the run live
Section titled “3. Watch the run live”-
Once the candidate has started, open Assess, then Assessments. Their run appears under All assessments.
-
Click the row to open the run. The Live badge means the page updates by itself, and the Time Remaining card shows the countdown.
-
Under Sessions, click a scenario to open its supervision panel. You see the candidate’s terminal in read-only mode, marked Observing.
You cannot type in that terminal: you watch, the candidate works. Scores stay hidden until the assessment is over.
4. Read the report
Section titled “4. Read the report”-
When the candidate has finished (or time has run out), open Assess, then Results.
-
On the candidate’s row, click the eye icon (View report).
-
Go through the report: Score, Passing mark, Scenario breakdown, Skill radar and Task details.
The Passed or Failed badge in the top-right corner compares the candidate’s score with the template’s passing score.
5. Record your verdict
Section titled “5. Record your verdict”The verdict (STRONG HIRE, HIRE, NO HIRE, STRONG NO HIRE) is recorded through the Klastro MCP integration, then shows up under Results and on the report. The steps are in Record a verdict.
